A dead cockroach was allegedly found in a meal at the Nexus Elante Mall of Chandigarh Friday. The allegation comes after a live lizard ended up in an order of Chole Bhature at the same food court last month.
Anil Kumar, the complainant and a resident of Mauli Complex, said he had ordered fried rice from a Ni Hao restaurant at the Elante Mall and was shocked to find a cockroach in his Chinese meal.
According to his allegations, Kumar took the contaminated food to the restaurant staff only to have it dismissed as an ‘onion’, which led the aggrieved customer to call the police.
He was assured of an intervention but it was conditional upon forensic tests successfully proving the roach was present in the said order.
A mall spokesperson said in a statement that the management has ordered an inspection of the food court.
“We were made aware of the regrettable incident at ‘Ni Hao’ kiosk at the food court on our premises managed by Ayaan Foods,” they said, according to a report.
“This is the second incident in a very short duration at the food court managed by Ayaan Foods and is unacceptable to us. The hygiene and safety of our patrons is of utmost importance to us and we urge the administration to conduct a thorough food safety audit in the food court and take necessary punitive action.”
Meanwhile, owner of Ayaan Foods, Puneet Gupta has accused the mall staff of ‘sabotage’ over a rent dispute that dates back to April.
